In Character Roleplays (Mythic Fantasy)
Whether epic or lowly in proportion, these settings are inspired by the myths and legends worlds culture. The two most seminal pieces of literature in this subject are The Lord of the Rings and Conan the Barbarian. This is a classic setting with enough cliches to start a roleplay with minimal preparation and explanation.

In Character Roleplays (Contemporary Fantasy)
Inspired by horror (Dracula) and the existence of real world Hermetic Societies (Order of the Golden Dawn), Contemporary Fantasy depicts a world in which magic co-exists with technology in a pseudo-realistic setting, whether openly or secretly. Famous examples include Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter and Twilight. The popularity of this genre is growing, especially where vampires and werewolves or magical teenagers are concerned.

In Character Roleplays (Science Fiction)
Whether the future is your playground or your logical extrapolation, these roleplays are inspired by advances technology and the genre itself. No other genre is more self-inspired. Space operas, cyberpunk and steampunk reside here. Seminal works include Dune (Novel), Star Wars (Film), Star Trek (TV) and The Matrix. Running Sci-Fi requires preparation- refer to Dantai's Guide To Roleplaying (Sci-Fi).

In Character Roleplays (Historical Realistic)
From Neanderthals to the near future, these RPs pride themselves with making the real world interesting. Military campaigns, historical adventures, spy thrillers and high school romances fit nicely here. Alternative and secret histories may be able to squeeze in too.

In Character Roleplays (Hybrid)
A roleplay that combines elements from multiple genres. Examples include the space-western show, Firefly, the cheesy sci-fi/western Wild Wild West, the most whacky of alternative history stories (Harry Turtledove and S. M. Sterling) and most post-apocalyptic settings (most especially the Fallout series). This is also a good place for zombie horrors.
